OT DAY 536 - Lord, Open My Eyes That I Can See Chariots of Fire (Please click here for English podcast)

Silence

1.   Put on your “brakes” and stop for a moment of silence
2.   Wait for God. Breathe deep for God's peace and feel His presence. Exhale your worries.

Praise and Thanksgiving

1.   Think through your day, all the times that made you smile
2.   Thank God for all those moments, and for all those people
3.   Open your heart to praise the Lord

Love the Lord, all you his saints!
    The Lord preserves the faithful
but abundantly repays the one who acts in pride.
Be strong, and let your heart take courage,
all you who wait for the Lord!

                                     Psalm 31:23-24

Confession and Repentance (Subjective Shifting Devotion Method http://bishopsilas.blogspot.ca/2009/08/count-down-5-subject-shifting-devotion.html)

1.  Pray for the Holy Spirit to work in you:

“Dear Holy Spirit, shine your light into the places of darkness in my life. Show me my sins, everything that blocks me from encountering God. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

2.  Through the Holy Spirit, examine yourself for a short silence and then pray:

"Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for our sins and being victorious over death and sin. I confess my sin to you(pause, to tell Jesus what the Holy Spirit has shown you). Forgive my sins by your blood and help me follow you. Holy Spirit, fill me that I may be able to receive your gift to love God and His people. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen."

The Word (2 Kings 6:1-23)

Once when the king of Syria was warring against Israel, he took counsel with his servants, saying, “At such and such a place shall be my camp.” But the man of God sent word to the king of Israel, “Beware that you do not pass this place, for the Syrians are going down there.” 10 And the king of Israel sent to the place about which the man of God told him. Thus he used to warn him, so that he saved himself there more than once or twice.
11 And the mind of the king of Syria was greatly troubled because of this thing, and he called his servants and said to them, “Will you not show me who of us is for the king of Israel?” 12 And one of his servants said, “None, my lord, O king; but Elisha, the prophet who is in Israel, tells the king of Israel the words that you speak in your bedroom.” 13 And he said, “Go and see where he is, that I may send and seize him.” It was told him, “Behold, he is in Dothan.” 14 So he sent there horses and chariots and a great army, and they came by night and surrounded the city.
15 When the servant of the man of God rose early in the morning and went out, behold, an army with horses and chariots was all around the city. And the servant said, “Alas, my master! What shall we do?” 16 He said, “Do not be afraid, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” 17 Then Elisha prayed and said, “O Lord, please open his eyes that he may see.” So the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw, and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.18 And when the Syrians came down against him, Elisha prayed to the Lord and said, “Please strike this people with blindness.” So he struck them with blindness in accordance with the prayer of Elisha. 19 And Elisha said to them, “This is not the way, and this is not the city. Follow me, and I will bring you to the man whom you seek.” And he led them to Samaria.
20 As soon as they entered Samaria, Elisha said, “O Lordopen the eyes of these men, that they may see.” So the Lord opened their eyes and they saw, and behold, they were in the midst of Samaria. 21 As soon as the king of Israel saw them, he said to Elisha, “My father, shall I strike them down? Shall I strike them down?” 22 He answered, “You shall not strike them down. Would you strike down those whom you have taken captive with your sword and with your bow? Set bread and water before them, that they may eat and drink and go to their master.” 23 So he prepared for them a great feast, and when they had eaten and drunk, he sent them away, and they went to their master. And the Syrians did not come again on raids into the land of Israel.                                     2 Kings 6:20-23

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

    My Listening

Today we come into a powerful passage about how Elisha has the gift and power to know everything he should not be able to know and the power to open his disciple's eyes to see horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.
What kind of gift and power is this? Can we receive this kind of gift and power so that we won't be frightened by evil forces or crisis anymore?

Let's see how Professor John Goldingay tells us:
     (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Goldingay) :
Over recent years the way I pray has been revolutionized by the awareness from the Prophets that when we pray we are taking part in debates in God's cabinet in heaven…
God chairs a cabinet and makes decisions in light of its debates. Prophets don't just listen; they take part, and that is what we do in prayer. That's why prayer is important; as in any meeting, if some people don't take part, then that influences the course of the debate and the decisions that are made…
Related to this fact is the way Elisha can sometimes know about the Arameans' military plans, perhaps because his access to the cabinet meetings means he hears the heavenly representatives of nations such as Aram reporting on events and plans.

We are having more and more brothers and sisters coming to our daily morning prayer at 6:30a.m. We started this call to our people to offer our First Fruit daily since January 1, 2016. And since then, Richmond Emmanuel Church is never the same! We are on fire!
Elisha opened his disciple's eyes to see horses and chariots of fire surrounding them. All the fear is gone! We as people of God are not only being protected but can have the powerful to overturn crisis into opportunities, and opportunities lead us into victories and miracles! That is what is happening at Richmond Emmanuel Church recently! That is the power of prayer can do to people of God! That is how we join those prayer warriors in Korea, in China and elsewhere who have been praying for years and centuries daily non-stop.
How blessed and wonderful that we catch this WAVE at last!
Come, let us offer our First Fruit each day and PRAY!

    Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to experience the power of prayer and are willing to offer our First Fruit each day to come together to pray.  In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

Reflect on these questions:
     1. Do you think the power of prayers is really so powerful?

2. What is your next step to join in this WAVE of prayer?

    3. What have you got from Jesus today?
